🚀 Action changes things. If you are experiencing job loss, consider shifting your mindset toward a bias for action. If you have a bias for action:
👉 You are not afraid to make decisions and take action even if you are facing uncertainty.
👉 You can embrace change as you pivot in a new direction.
👉 You are able to take calculated risks based on available data and execute plans with speed.
👉 You understand most actions and decisions are reversible.
🎯 People with these qualities are rock stars to recruiters! This propels you to move past negative experiences, excessive research, and over-analysis about your career and it pushes you toward action. Plus, you can continue to refine your strategy over time as it evolves.
✔️ Update your resume. Start compiling a list of your greatest achievements
from your last job. Do you have new skills? How did you make an impact? Demonstrate your value and connect to your next role. Show recruiters how you are ready to move on from your last job and accept new challenges.
✔️ Build out your LinkedIn profile. Have you updated your profile with new branding and skills that align with your target jobs? Is it relevant to where you are now in your career? Is it relevant to recruiters? Maybe you never relied on LinkedIn before in a job search. Maybe you did not recognize the value of LinkedIn in your career. It’s not too late. You can embrace change and successfully pivot toward harnessing the power of LinkedIn to find your next job.
✔️ Network. Do you have any target companies in mind? Do you have connections at those companies? Are you continuing to build your network and increase connections? Leverage your network. It shows you are taking a calculated risk while signaling to people that you are taking active steps to land your next job.
✔️ Scan job announcements. Do you see skills you possess? Are they listed in your resume and LinkedIn profile? Tailor your resume to incorporate skills from the job announcements. If you find this is taking you too long, you are overthinking it. Show recruiters you researched and executed a plan to specifically target those jobs.
✔️ Make your next power move. Commit to targeting positions that will make you feel like you are doing meaningful work. Source positions that align with your job preferences and promote growth. Employing actionable steps while pivoting in a new direction will attract recruiters’ attention.
